Who Provides the ISO Certification?

So, who qualifies for ISO certification or accreditation? Many individuals assume that ISO issues the certification, although this is different. Instead, certification or accreditation will be granted by an accredited auditor. The auditor is known as a Certification Body (“CB”) (for instance, ISO 9001 or IATF 16949) or an Accreditation Body (“AB”) (for instance, ISO/IEC 17025) based on the standard being audited. A CB is also known as a Registrar.

When selecting a registrar, ensure that they are accredited, which means that they are an affiliate of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). They must also be accredited to ISO/IEC 17021:2015.
